Roadshow

Music by Carl Schimmel

Schimmel’s “Roadshow for Thora” was written for his children, one for his daughter Thora. Schimmel was inspired by the hit PBS show “Antiques Roadshow,” and each miniature movement is a musical imagining of how she might play with toys he saw featured on the show. The first track of the recording, “Silver Atom Ray Gun” from Roadshow for Otto, with its bravura opening and maudlin asides, encapsulates Schimmel’s occasionally cartoonish presentation.

Sarumba

Music by Peter Lieuwen

“The idea for the QUAD Concerto was hatched in 2011 at an after-concert dinner with the SOLI Chamber Ensemble in San Antonio.  SOLI had just performed my composition Overland Dream which was written for the ensemble.  As many of my compositions are orchestral, I couldn’t help but envision a new concerto for their colorful instrumental combination.”

Salon Buenos Aires

Music by Miguel Del Aguila

Miguel del Aguila music draws from a wide range of influences and may be some of the most immediately appealing classical music being written today. Aguila's Latin American roots are apparent in this high energy ostinato-driven music, but there are also touches of the avant-garde, as well as a tongue in cheek approach that sends up South American culture. This is music that is fun to listen to and simply defies categorization, played with infectious high spirits by Camerata San Antonio.

defining dahl

The Music of Ingolf Dahl

Dahl was a former student of Nadia Boulanger, and close to Igor Stravinsky, and both of these influences, and more, are apparent in Dahl's music which is solidly scored, brightly rhythmic, and serious in intent, but packed with attractive and occasionally off-kilter harmonies.

The Tower of Saint Barbara is the only purely orchestral work Dahl created; it is dramatic, quite sober, and was intended as a ballet, though it also has strong cinematic overtones.
